New Critter Mayor Takes Office

What started as a chilly, rainy day ended bright and sunny for one very special dog when “No Fuss” Gus Schurig was named Lake Oconee Village’s new Critter Mayor at the Big Event on March 18. Gus’s competition included several other dogs, a cat, and even a one-legged rooster, but they were no match for the laid back dog who just wants to make everyone happy.
“My hope is I can help with the spay and neuter program, find wonderful homes for unwanted dogs and kitties, and also help with medical expenses,” Gus said of the nearly $3,000 he raised during the election. “I ran against some great competition and was surprised, but very pleased, that I won. I intend to work really hard.”
All candidates raised a total over $7,000 that will go directly toward helping ORHS provide much needed care for cats and dogs in need. To find out how you can aid “No Fuss” Gus in his commitment to helping the cats and dogs of Greene and Putnam counties, visit www.orhspets.org.
