How You Can Help
The Oconee Regional Humane Society is volunteer based and we are always looking for help in all aspects of our organization. The following represent a few of our priorities.
We are looking for families who will take in a dog or cat while it is being prepared for adoption. The animal that you house will be spayed or neutered and will have received all of its shots.
We will ask you to evaluate the type of home in which it should be placed, for example, whether or not the animal should be placed in a home with children or other pets.
ORHS covers all costs associated with fostering. The animal will stay in its foster home until it is adopted, which usually takes place within a two week period. Your foster home is an important stepping stone for an animal prior to its adoption into its permanent home.
Each Saturday a team of volunteers works with the dogs and cats at “Adoption Day Events”.
They walk and play with the animals, keep them comfortable and talk to prospective adopters.
This is a very rewarding experience as you get to see a formerly unwanted animal find its forever home. It is a hands-on day from about 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Education Outreach is a community outreach program intended to educate children, teens and adults in proper animal healthcare, hygiene, spay/neuter, choosing the right pet and more.
This includes working on our newsletter as well as new material for our website.
We can always use more pictures of the cutest animals in the world – our dogs and cats! Everyone loves to see our little guys in the newsletter and on our website. There is also a need for photographers at our special events.
This area includes special mailings, database maintenance, voicemail and email monitoring, etc.
We are always looking for volunteers to help us with our fundraising events. Our needs might include greeters, food preparation, servers, raffle tickets, tour guides, etc.
